One of the questions that has emerged in light of the death of the young teen due to being hit by a pickup truck while skateboarding is whether there are any rights that surviving family members have in California after a loved one is killed in a tragic and unexpected traffic accident. It is important for Santa Clarita residents and families to know that if the driver who caused the accident that killed your loved one was negligent or otherwise at fault, you may be entitled to money compensation under California personal injury wrongful death laws. California’s wrongful death laws entitle certain surviving family members of those individuals who have been killed in negligently-caused accidents to bring a lawsuit in court for money compensation. Money compensation in wrongful death cases in Santa Clarita may include compensation for the family member’s lost wages, compensation for pain and suffering for the loss of their life, and other important categories of compensation. There is a limited time to file a case under California’s wrongful death laws, so it is important to speak with an experienced Santa Clarita personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after a serious or fatal accident occurs.
