Authorities Suspect Drunk Driving Involved in Multi-Car Accident that Killed 5 Near Palmdale

A horrific and catastrophic car accident that left five people dead and a community shaken is now being investigated by law enforcement authorities and the findings indicate a senseless and illegal reason for the deadly crash. According to local news reports, the Victorville Daily Press, the deadly two-car accident occurred on Sunday evening, April 28 on California’s Highway 138 at 106th Street, near Palmdale. The intersection is unique because it is controlled on both northbound and southbound sides by stop signs, but traffic is permitted to flow without stopping through Highway 138. On the evening of the accident, the driver of a Toyota Yaris that was traveling north on 106th street failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the driving path of a Mitsubishi that was traveling east at the same time on Highway 138. The Toyota collided with the Mitsubishi in the intersection on the left side of the vehicle and all of the occupants of both vehicles involved in the accident were killed and were later pronounced dead at the scene. The five deaths included both drivers of the vehicles, and the three passengers that were traveling in the Toyota.

Law enforcement officers looking into the tragic and deadly accident now believe that drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash. California Highway Patrol representatives indicated that, “The involvement of alcohol and/or drugs is suspected to be a factor in this crash, but will not be confirmed until the medical examination is completed.”

As a result of the accident, and other recent accidents on the highway, California’s Pearblossom Highway is now being looked at by California lawmakers for safety improvements. California State Representative Juan Carillo said of the deadly roadway, “Pearblossom Highway has earned a reputation as one of the most dangerous roads in our state and tragically multiple accidents have taken the lives of six more people in the past two days alone…The alarming frequency of severe accidents and fatalities on this road has created a pervasive sense of insecurity among our community members.”
