Multiple DUI Accidents Rock Santa Clarita Over Single Weekend – Find Out What You Can Do if You are Injured by a Drunk or Intoxicated Driver in Santa Clarita

Earlier this spring in mid-May, a single weekend saw two serious car accidents, both of which are believed to have potentially been caused by drivers who were under the influence of alcohol or drugs. According to local news reports, the weekend of Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, brought with it two accidents that left a “trail of destruction” in their wake. The first of the two suspected Driving Under the Influence accidents occurred on Saturday, May 17, in a Saugus neighborhood. On that Saturday evening, at around 11:45 p.m., Los Angeles County firefighters were on the scene to assist with a car crash at the intersection of Las Mananitas Drive and Vista Delgado Drive. At the scene, a gray Honda Civic was “lodged on top of a damaged wall, wedged between a front yard and a parked pickup truck.” Deputies reported that they found a “large bottle of vodka” beneath the driver-side door, under the pickup truck. The driver who allegedly caused the crash was reported only to be “a man in his early 20s.” He was administered field sobriety tests, and then taken to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail.
The second of the two suspected-DUI-involved car accidents that happened that weekend occurred at around 2:07 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, May 18. At that time, Santa Clarita deputies responded to another car crash involving a suspected DUI driver crashing into a wall. This time, officers arrived on the scene to find that a “car crashed into a light pole and slammed into a nearby retaining wall….” The driver, only described as a female, was seriously injured in the crash, and she was taken to the hospital in “critical condition.” She was alleged to have potentially been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Lt. Michael Rathbun said of the terrible and potential DUI-involved accident, “Take advantage of ride share apps…Drinking and driving is never the right option.” The accidents were under investigation at the time of the most recent reports.
