Double 18-Wheeler Truck Accident in Utah Highlights Dangers of Truck Accidents Involving Smaller Vehicles

18Wheeler

A multiple semi-truck crash that occurred in Utah this week is raising awareness about the dangers that drivers of smaller vehicles face when involved in accidents with 18-wheeler trucks. According to local news reports, on Thursday, January 24, two separate semi-truck crashes in the same location (that are being reported as a double semi-truck crash), blocked Utah’s I-215 at milepost 24 at 1200 North in Salt Lake City. The first of the two crashes occurred around noon when an 18-wheeler truck rolled onto its side in the northbound lane of the interstate. Then, the second semi-truck plowed into a car, pushing it into another lane where it was hit by an oncoming car, sending both cars back into the semi-truck, which then is said to have jackknifed in the highway. The block is reported to have blocked all traffic flow going southbound, except one lane that remained operational. The second semi-truck accident is said to have been caused because the semi-truck driver was looking at the first semi-truck accident.

Local law enforcement officers note that a female occupant of one of the vehicles that was hit by the semi-truck was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. She is reported to have been in critical condition at the time she was rushed to the hospital. The injured woman has not been identified to the public.

The Dangers of 18-Wheeler Trucks on the Road

Semi-trucks, or 18-wheeler trucks, are dangerous when out on the road with other, smaller vehicles, as the recent double semi-truck accident illustrates. Due to their sheer weight and size in comparison to even SUVs and larger vehicles, semi-trucks have the power to seriously injure and even kill passengers and occupants in smaller vehicles. Truck drivers may have impacted visibility due the size of the truck, and may also require a longer stopping distance, so drivers on the road with semi-trucks should make sure to drive safely and observe caution when near or around semi-trucks. Of course, even the safest semi-truck driver and even the safest car driver can still get into a serious car accident, especially if they become distracted. However, if you were injured by a truck driver’s negligent driving, you may be entitled to compensation for the injuries that you suffered, property that was damaged in the accident, and other categories of compensation under California laws.
